Villa d'Este in Tivoli is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance and is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 2013 it was the twelfth most visited Italian state site, with 399,577 visitors. The villa was commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, son of Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia (Ferrara 1509 - Rome 1572), on a site formerly the site of a Roman villa.
Villa Adriana it was a royal residence outside the city since the 2nd century. Commissioned by the emperor Hadrian (76-138), it is located in Tivoli (ancient Tibur). Gradually built in the first half of the 2nd century a few kilometers from ancient Tibur, the structure appears to be a rich complex of buildings extending over a large area, which must have covered about 120 hm2, in an area rich in water sources at 17 miles Roman from Urbs. Villa Adriana in 1999 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In 2013 it was the twenty-ninth most visited Italian state site, with 207,419 visitors. Since December 2014, Villa Adriana has been managed by the State Museums of Lazio.
